In order for the sound to travel it needs “space”; in order for a place or room to exist it needs “space”. The “space” that fills the universe, the galaxy, the earth, your room is the same space that fills your body. This “space” is accesible to you regardless of you noticing or not.
The whole purpose of meditation, if there is a purpose, is to become familiar with this space. We use meditation techniques as a tool to access the “space”. Some people take longer than others to start noticing the “space” between the thoughts. When it does happen then you can start relaxing more and more into the experience. The whole relationship of your meditation practice becomes about letting the “space” be here even though the experience appears to be silent, calm, noisy or uncomfortable...
